Prepping for newborn photos can be a little overwhelming. You are home with a new baby and now you have to think about taking pictures. If you plan things early and you don’t over think it you can have a great session.
The first step in planning your session should be done when you are pregnant. Research and find a photographer that you like. Some photographers do “posed” in studio session with babies. Some do at home “lifestyle” sessions. I do lifestyle newborn photography in The Woodlands, TX. Once you have decided, contact the photographer and let her/him know your due date. Your session will happen shortly after the baby is born.
After having the baby and you get home (or even when you are in the hospital) let your photographer know that baby is here and that the session should happen soon. Your photographer will schedule your session for a few days after you are home. I like to schedule newborn photos for the first week after baby is born. I find that babies are the calmest and also easier to work with when they are really tiny.
The day of your session is finally here so now what?
Start by not planning big fancy outfits. Focus on showing baby off and not what he/she is wearing. Simple goes a long way when it comes to prepping for newborn photos. Think a white onesie, maybe pink or baby blue. No big, busy patterns that would distract your eye when you look back at your pictures.
One “hot” tip that I give ALL my clients is to make the house warm. Really warm. Warm enough that you might feel a bit uncomfortable. If you do this it will help baby be more sleepy and easier to take the sleepy pictures that everyone loves. Another tip that I give clients is to swaddle the baby. A little burrito baby falls asleep like a breeze. And always, always make sure baby is full.
With these simple tips, preparing for your newborn photos should be a lot easier and less stressful. Contact me and let’s plan your session!
