Girl senior photography is a whole different kind of beast. And I love every minute of it. Most girls know exactly what they want and will find the photographer that they feel will work for them. Photographers love this because then we I know exactly what we have to deliver. Takes some of the guessing game out.
Girls know where they want to have their pictures done. If they don’t they usually know what kind of “look” they want. Some want urban, or flowers, fields, or green spaces. That is part of the planning that we do when we discuss the session.
Another thing that most girls do is hair and makeup. This opportunity is a great opportunity to get pampered and get a professional to do hair and makeup. Professional makeup looks amazing in pictures. And don’t forget about those nails! Hands sometimes make in the shot and if the nails don’t look nice the photo doesn’t look finished. It’s about the little details!
What to wear? That is always the question. Girl senior photography is very cool because girls can have different looks for their session if they want to. They can have a formal dress, a trendy outfit, something super casual, etc. This is where their personality can really shine. I am a huge proponent of the girls showing who they are. If they are earthy and kind of hippie than at least one of her outfits should be like that. It should not feel like you are dressing up as someone else. In 20 years the girl in those photos should recognize herself and not think, “what was I thinking? I don’t even use to like that.”
Last but not least…
The accessories! Girls are all about the accessories. Sunglasses. scarves, hats, a cute sweater over a sun dress. All of those are so fun to add to a session and really bring some personal touch to the photos.
