When choosing your location for senior portraits in Houston it is important to not overthink it. I know that everyone wants an EPIC spot and something super unique. But the most unique thing about your photos is YOU. You will make the photo amazing and the location will be second.
I find that a lot of times the most random spots make the best locations. Recently I had a senior session where I chose every spot we went to. My senior had zero input on where the pictures were going to be taken. I must admit she was very brave. But she trusted me and I love how her images turned out.
The main goal of this session was to show her (and you) that some spots that are not very traditional can be the most amazing places. We started with a creek on the side of the road. I literally drive by here almost every day and always think that I want to shoot there. No one has every wanted to meet there. Well, Mia did and I must say it did not disappoint.
The next location that we went to was the outside of a restaurant. When we pulled up all I heard was, “I don’t think that place will be that cool.” Honestly I think this is one of the coolest spots that we went to. The light was perfect and the wall did it’s magic.
Right next door there is a cute little store. Usually they have some cacti on the outside but I think they didn’t make it through the “BIG FREEZE OF 2021”. We still managed to get some photos there and find some really interesting textures.
The sun was going down fast and I still had two more locations… We needed to work fast at the next spot.
The Last Two Spots Were So Cool…
At the next spot I didn’t get any push back. It was an easy yes. Outside of Flower Child Restaurant they painted the cutest mural and Mia was all in for photos there. We even had a small audience that was having dinner on the patio.
After what seemed like a lighting round of photos at Flower Child we headed to the last spot. A warehouse on a small street with not much traffic. I wanted to use some chain link fence as a prop. Mia put her hair in a messy bun and a new outfit and we were ready to shoot. The sun was super low and we didn’t have much time. Once we packed up it was super dark and we had used every bit of light that we could.
So, when choosing your location for senior portraits in Houston don’t overthink it. YOU are the main focus of your photos and make them shine! Be yourself, have fun, and trust your photographer. You will love the final product!
