Something that clients always ask for is fall outfit ideas for family photos. People get very nervous about what to wear for family photos. It can be nerve wracking to get the whole family looking nice at the same time. I have done it too, so trust me I know!
When I book a session I always ask what are your plans for your photos. Where in your house are you going to display them? What colors are you drawn to? That way I can send them inspiration for something that they would like to wear and not something that isn’t their style at all.
In Houston we have a very mild fall, sometimes it can even be warm. That can be good and bad. Some fall outfit ideas are more geared for a cooler fall. The boots, layers, and warm colors that we all think of for fall sometimes can be a bit warm for here. But if you are good with being a little warm for a small amount of time we can give it a go. Another solution is to book your session for the later part of November.
A good thing about mild fall weather is that layers do work great. A cute scarf or a thin sweater give your photos texture and something cute to look at. Accessories are a fun way to add personality to your images. And from a cute scarf you can pull colors for the rest of the family’s outfits.
Another positive thing from our mild fall weather is that if you would like to wear short sleeves and no sweater you will be okay. You will most likely not be cold. Our fall weather gives us lots of options for what to wear for photo sessions.
No matching clothes for your fall outfits ideas!
Another thing I always tell my clients when we are planning outfits for a family session is, “don’t look like you are matching. Look like you are going to the same party.” I am not a huge fan of the white polo and jeans look. I prefer to see my clients personality come out in what they are wearing. My goal is for you to look back at your photos and see who you were at that time.
And trust me, all my clients look great when they show up at my sessions. I use my own clients photos to send inspiration to my new clients. I also use Pinterest but a lot of the photos I send are from my own files.
Send me a message and let’s get your family all done up and ready for their photos!
