How to choose what to wear for your senior photos is the number one question I get. Everyone is stressed about how to prepare for your senior session. Let’s take the bull by the horns and let’s make it super easy to choose your outfits.
Start by choosing two outfits
Most of my sessions include at least one outfit change. So my suggestion is to start by choosing two outfits. Choose a dressy one and a casual one. For the casual one think short or jeans with a cute top if you are a girl. Or shorts or jeans with a t-shirt if you are a guy. Kind of street wear would work too if that is your style. The main thing is that it should be fun and you should feel comfortable in it. You can even add a jacket or sweater and add an extra layer to your photos (think of it as a third look).
Now, for the dressy outfit you can select a dress, a romper, a skirt with a cute top. A flowy dress is always a fun option and super feminine. Guys can get some slacks and a cool button down, a suit if you are up for it. Having the option of dressy and casual outfits gives you a lot of variety for different photos!
Stick to your own style: BE YOU
You might feel some pressure to look a certain way for your senior photos. “Everyone wears a hat for their senior session so I should wear a hat.” Well, not necessarily. Hats can be super cute. However, if hats are not your thing do not feel like you have to wear one. The most important thing I can tell you on how to choose what to wear for senior photos is be yourself. Show your true fashion and be unapologetically YOU. There is no one you should want to be more than yourself.
If you like thrifting and like vintage clothing then bring that. If you HATE dresses don’t wear one (even though I just told you to wear one in the section above LOL). Sometimes you don’t even have to look any further than your own closet. Liking what you wear for your session will make you more comfortable when taking your photos. Therefor, you will like your photos even more! Win, win!!
Options and more options for your senior session
Just because your session only includes two or three options doesn’t mean you can’t bring more. If you can’t decide what top to wear with those jeans bring a couple and I can help you choose. If you can’t decide what dress you want to wear, bring them both and we can pick together.
I am not saying bring everything you own. I am just saying bring a few pieces that can be combined and we can put an outfit together. You can also text pictures and we can choose what to wear that way.
Choose to add some accessories and layers
Layers are a fun easy way to add interest to your outfits. A denim jacket or a sweater can add the perfect layer to complete your look. Mixing textures can be so fun and it helps make the photo more interesting. When adding layers make sure the colors compliment each other. This will make your outfit more cohesive.
Accessories are my fave! I love a good necklace and bracelet. A cute belt and earing can complete the look, too. Hair scarf, a hat are all SOOOO FUN! There are many ways to paly with all those. These little details bring the outfit together and really elevate your look.
