What are fall mini sessions and are they right for your family?
Fall mini sessions by definition are short sessions that are held all in one place on the same day. I schedule 5 families and each family will get 10 to 15 minutes of shooting time. That feels super fast but trust me, I can get it done. When you get your gallery there will be enough images that you can pick your favorite 7 and download them to your computer. Wham! Bam! Thank you, ma’am! That simple.
The one thing that is hard is if we have to reschedule due to weather. So for week prior I will do a weather dance, say prayers, put saints around the house, etc. Anything it takes for the weather to be on our side. Rescheduling 5 families is like playing Tetris when the pieces are coming down really fast. LOL
Are these sessions right for your family? I know it’s very tempting to just book a mini session and be done with it. And for some families they work great. I think they work best for families that have done photography sessions before. Or families that take photos often. These families are pros at it. They don’t need a lot of “warming up” before they relax in front of my lens.
I know that sometimes you think your family would do great with short 10-15 session. And a lot of times they would. But some families need a little extra time to relax. You can totally see them relaxing and enjoying the time spent together. Shy kids (or husbands) do better with a little more time. Also, make sure to tell me if they are shy. I will make sure to make them feel comfortable getting their pictures taken.
Did you decide that one of these fall mini sessions is right for you?
You have booked your mini session and you are ready for fall. Now what? Well, now you prepare. You pick coordinating outfits (not matching). Matching is no bueno. No one wants to looks like a JC Pennys catalog from the 80’s. I always say you want to look like you are going to the same party.
If you are casual, then everyone should be casual. You want to do fancy? The whole family should do fancy. And things will go a lot smoother if everyone can be themselves. Don’t try to dress in a way that it feels like you are wearing a costume. Be yourselves and you will for sure LOVE your photos. And if you need some inspiration on what to wear follow this link and check of some great combinations that other families have done.
