During the 2017-2018 cheer session I was lucky enough to be able to photograph The Woodlands College Park cheerleaders. One of the sessions that they hired me was for me to come to a football game and take pictures of them cheering and having fun. I don’t know who had more fun them or me! The games are loud, fast paced, and full of fun things to photograph. The girls did such a good job and as a boy mom I was in cheer heaven.
I went to two different games. The first game was a Freshman/Jr. Varsity game. We got there early so we could take some individual pictures of the girls on the field before the players got there. We had the field to ourselves. Soon after we were done they had to start warming up and getting ready for the game. Let me tell you something about cheerleaders. They are ATHLETES! Hard core, strong, and tough athletes. They have been training for a long time to make their high school squad. They have invested hours, blood, sweat, and tears to be where they are. I am very impressed with all that they do!They cheered for two games with the Texas heat and never showed it. They did an awesome job. At the end of the game Texas gave us a beautiful sunset. It looked like it wasn’t real, like I had painted it on with Photoshop. I wish all my sessions ended with a sunset like that! It made my heart happy.Once the game was over several of the girls asked for photos of them with their friends. Of course I took a bunch but out of all of the pictures this next one is probably my favorite. It’s probably my favorite one of the whole night. Check out the dads in the background. They were a riot! They knew all the cheers the girls were doing and they photo bombed their picture. How fun are they? A couple of weeks later I went to the Varsity game. We had to share the field with the players from both teams, with a lot of other photographers, coaches, trainers, etc. Varsity games are busy, fast paced, and with lots going on. On the game that I photographed the cheerleaders were wearing pink to show their support for Breast Cancer Awareness month. I loved the touches of pink with their blue and silver uniform.
We took individual pictures very quickly and then they got ready to cheer. These girls love what they do. They had so much fun. That is my favorite part of photographing groups like this one. You see how much fun they have doing what they love. All the hours spent training are worth it. And to all those moms driving kids to practice, to games, tumbling, tournaments, staying up late helping with homework, wiping tears when they get hurt, let me tell you that all that work is worth it. It’s worth it when you see them doing what they love and you see them so happy!
It was great fun to photograph the College Park cheerleaders. Now I am looking forward to taking more pictures of people doing what they love to do…
